What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a popular therapy in the UK, known for its effectiveness in treating a variety of conditions. Developed by Dr Steven C. Hayes, ACT aims to help individuals develop cognitive defusion, acceptance, contact with the present moment, and the observing self. Dr Gurpreet Kaur, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, offers ACT in the Surrey area and tailors treatments to the individual’s needs.

Does Acceptance and Commitment Therapy help?

ACT helps individuals come to terms with their emotions and overcome negative or destructive behaviours and patterns. It is often an effective treatment for stress, anxiety, and low moods.

ACT is based on the idea that avoiding, denying, or struggling with emotions can lead to further distress, and encourages individuals to accept their emotions and focus on their values.

Additional Therapies

In addition to ACT, Dr Gurpreet Kaur offers other therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and more. Depending on your requirements, Dr Kaur can suggest and even tailor treatments specifically to the individual’s needs, and is able to treat a number of conditions from anxiety, trauma and PTSD.
