Trauma Related Difficulties

Traumatic events can drastically impact the lives of those that experience them. Trauma is considered as any event that causes psychological or physical harm to you or to others. People are often mistaken in that they believe something must happen to you directly in order for it to be considered a traumatic experience, but simply watching someone go through it themselves can be just as damaging to your mental wellbeing. Trauma, in short, is an event that exceeds your ability to cope and has a negative effect on your ability to function psychologically. These events don’t have to be life-threatening, instead they can leave you feeling lost, hopeless, and overwhelmed.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, occur to due to exposure / repeated exposure to ‘Big T Trauma’.

PTSD can cause unwanted memories of the traumatic experience to reoccur in the form of flashbacks or nightmares. Complex PTSD comes as a result of prolonged / repeat exposure to traumatic events. Someone with Complex PTSD may struggle with their ability to maintain their attention or focus and may experience dissociation.

This can lead to chronic and long-term difficulties, impacting our relationships and focus.

Anxiety is a cousin of stress. It can manifest in many ways. Anxiety can leave you feeling panicked and unsafe. It can create a profound physical change in your body leaving you breathless and sweating.
